Our good friend Jason got married yesterday to his sweetheart Pauline. We had the honour and privilege of shooting his wedding. Congrats bro!

BaoHua was Olivia’s ex-colleague from NUS, so we jumped at the opportunity to shoot their wedding.
It was really fun shooting for someone we already knew. Also, Olivia joined in for the shoot, making it extra fun. =)
They had a simple, yet meaningful wedding, and it was a pleasure being able to capture their special day.

Last Saturday, PhotosByMarbles covered the lovely wedding of Jaws and Baohua.

Wait! Who is Goli?
Let’s start from the beginning. First there was Gene and Olivia, church friends who were brought together by living 5 mins from each other and….. photography.
Gene started off his interest by experimenting with his amazingly noisy Panasonic FZ30 which he had invested in with one of his 1st pay cheques after graduation, an upgrade from his Canon Ixus. Olivia was blessed with a Nikon FM10 from her father as a 15th birthday pressie and was soon shooting up a storm of fashion shows, school productions, Ikea-like room setups and household pets.
After one of many trips home together after church practice, Gene, thought that he would impress Oli by sending her a photo he had just taken and asking her what she thought of it. He slowly realised his mistake as Olivia innocently went into the whole barrage of composition, lighting, feeling, focus, colour, positioning etc. So much for just expecting a ‘Wah! So nice!’.
The next milestone in Goli was when Gene was asked to help capture his ex-colleague’s wedding day moments. With both Gene and Olivia knowing that his FZ30 just wouldn’t do the job, Olivia lent him her newly purchased Canon 30D, 24-70L and 430EX. There, the seed for PhotosByMarbles was planted as Gene got rave reviews for his captures and more looked to him to help them out on their big day.
With all the shoots, walkabouts, dinners and discussions, Gene and Olivia officially came together and were soon coined Goli (G-ene + OLI- via) by their super creative church friends.
Wanting Gene to continue improving his skills and share them with others, PhotosByMarbles was born. (That’s us, Marbles in hokkien) Gene with his wedding-based shoots and Oli with her product, food & architecture shoots.
Goli got married on 1st May 2009 and now, as we celebrate our 6th month anniversary, we look forward to bringing joy and great memories to more couples embarking on their new lives just as we have been blessed on our journey.
(And for all who are deeply concerned, not to worry, Gene has since done a super upgrade from his FZ30 to a Canon DSLR and our combined stash of lenses)
Hopefully this answers the perennial questions of ‘Who is/ Why is it PhotosByMarbles?’
